Class Descriptions
Physical Education:
This year in Secondary Physical Education we will focus on both the enjoyment and importance of health and physical activity. This will be largely comprised of a variety of different sports and games, and will also include some academic work, satisfying the state required Health credit for high school students. Physical activity should be fun, not drudgery! This year in my class we will explore avenues to lead physically active, healthy lives!
This year in Elementary Physical Education we will explore countless options for the enjoyment of physical activity. We will play a variety of different sports and games and even create some games of our own to play. We will constantly be changing our focus from week to week as to not let physical activity become "boring." My goal by the end of the year is that all elementary students not only enjoy living physically active lives, but that they are also equipped with a tool belt of options to take home and be active for life!
Hands-On Science
Science will be hands-on and inquiry based. Topics will be studied in units from life science, earth science, and physical science, at a grade appropriate level that parents can supplement at home. This class will help students learn the scientific method. Students will do experiments each week as they build a love for science!
Robotics and Circuits
Robotics and circuits will explore the electronic and computing aspects of scientific technology by building and programming robots using Lego Mindstorms (Grades 3 – 4) and We-Do (Grades 1 - 2) and Electronic Snap Circuits. Topics covered include electronics of robots, understanding electricity and circuits, robotic programming, and computers and basic computing skills. Students will learn to work together to complete challenges with the robots they create and program, design simple machines and understand how they work, learn the basics of programming robots using a unique programming language created by Lego, and just plain have fun!
Art K-8!
Artwork surrounds us every day. And effects our lives in several ways. My name is Mrs. Rojas and I am here to help facilitate that love for art and help bring that into your child's life and in turn teach them to express themselves visually and tactilely through art!
In the first half of the year, we will explore the elements and principles of art that surround us every day. Student focus will be on seeing our world and art through a different perspective. Students will have the opportunity to use hands on projects that reinforce the basics of art. They will start to learn the basics of art through drawing, and painting. They will use various media such as watercolor, pencils, colored pencils, acrylic paint, pen and ink and paper to design projects that reflect art pieces studied. In the second half of the year, we will explore some famous art pieces from history. The class will examine how great artists used the principles and elements of art in their masterpieces. After class study, students will have the chance to create their own versions of these historical works of art including but not limited to self-portraits! The projects will vary of course from our diverse group of age ranges of which we are so lucky to have!
